The French actor Vincent Perez, the director of Peau d'ange, presented his film this weekend in the official competition at the Montreal World Film Festival. It's the mystical tale of a young woman who finds illumination in the dreams of destiny.

Produced by Luc Besson, this film, which received a mitigated reception of criticism, is an adventure for Vincent and his wife, Karine Silla, who co-wrote the script. For him, it was a return to his first love, that of photography.

Peau d'ange, aesthetically perfect, plunges into the world of Angele (Morgane More), a young woman who has the ability to endure the hard blows of life without rebelling. Hardly leaving adolescence, she works as a servant in a city close to the farm of her parents.

She meets Gregoire (Guillaume Depardieu). A little lost, he prefers drinking rather than attending the burial of his mother and seeks comfort for the night in the arms of Angele.

With the memory of her first lover etched in her mind, the young woman begins a journey with Gregoire, ending in her imprisonment.

Vincent Perez, who has already directed short films, spoke at the press conference on Sunday about his desire to stand behind the camera.

"The love that I have for the cinema, the image, photography, has always existed. Having been a photographer, I have a technique, and I am a little frustrated not to be able to use it in my work as an actor. It is like a loop, which I could close."

But he does not stop acting. Now filming Fanfan la Tulipe, Vincent Perez makes this one short trip to Montreal, the only festival of competition in North America, where he competes for the Grand Prix des Ameriques, which will be decreed on September 2.
